Luna moths are one of the most exquisite creatures in the world, and these earrings play tribute to them. They are handcrafted of jeweler's brass and Sterling silver. The Sterling earring wires are self-wires, meaning that they are attached. The earrings are hand painted and embellished with Austrian crystals and tiny beads, and protected with a strong coat of crystal clear resin. The wings measure 1/2" x 1 1/8", and the earring wires add another 3/8" to their height.
And may I add that my interest in luna moths has been heightened by raising them for 20 years, a project my son and I started when we learned that they were threatened by an introduced predator. So the cocoons go from my fridge where they winter, to hatching in May (so amazing!) to to breeding, egg laying, caterpillar raising (looove the caterpillars too!) to cocoons in August and then back into the fridge in October.
