Spore printing is one factor in identifying a mushroom. Caps are laid on white and black paper in order to see what color spores drop. The resulting pattern is really interesting, a star burst of sorts. These Black Spore Print Earrings are inspired by the real thing. They are handmade out of Sterling silver and jeweler's brass, and carefully handpainted, and then sealed with a protective coat of resin. They are studded with little silver "spores" which give them sparkle and texture. They measure 7/8" in diameter, not including the Sterling earring wires.

I have fabricated it out of brass and Sterling, and hand-colored it, protecting it with 3 clear-coats, the final one being a tough resin. Metal components are lacquered. It measures a generous 3/4” in diameter and is light to wear. It hangs from an 18” Sterling silver chain.

Mushrooms symbolize the beauty and magic of nature, and the amanita muscaria, or fly agaric, is the quintessential mushroom. It is the mushroom that was featured in Alice in Wonderland, and was the subject of European folklore, and often represented in Christmas tree ornaments. These earrings pay homage to this and all mushrooms. They are handcrafted from jewelry’s brass and Sterling, and carefully hand painted, and sealed with 4 protective clear coats, the final one being a jewelry grade resin for the ultimate durability. The stems dance lightly underneath the caps. And it gets better! Bits of the decorative elements will glow in the dark after being exposed to bright light for several minutes. They measure a scant 3/4” wide and 1” long without the earring wires. Earring wires are Sterling but can be replaced with the ultimate hypo-allergenic niobium by request. These earrings are light and fun to wear, and make great gifts, too.
